The other day while walking down a corridor in a public building, I saw what appeared to be someone walking toward me. On coming closer, I found it was my own reflection in a huge mirror. For a moment it frightened me. Somehow a full-length reflection of one’s self is a startling thing. ...

Vantage Point: It's All About People

There is one thing that being a Christian journalist affords in abundance — opportunities to do interviews … lots of interviews.

Most of these are of the shorter variety as a small portion of a story. But, as regular readers of the Pentecostal Evangel know, we also print a weekly interview article, currently called PE Connections.

Interviews are popular because they feature the most popular aspect of the magazine — people. Readers are interested in people stories more than anything else, and in our interview features, people tell their stories firsthand.

Some interviews, with high-profile individuals, take a lot of effort and advance planning. Others we seemingly stumble into.

Some of the best are with everyday people. There are great people stories everywhere.

Some reaffirm the value of a relationship with Christ when compared to riches or fame. It was an unexpected privilege to meet pro football Hall-of-Famer Raymond Berry in 2001, and get to interview him.

After his superb performance in the Baltimore Colts’ sudden-death victory in the 1958 NFL Championship, he was left with the thought, There has to be more to life than chasing a football.

Of course, he found the answer.

Pat Boone is a unique celebrity, active in his faith throughout his lifetime, who provided a compelling interview.

Public servants holding political office and people with names few would recognize but who pour their lives into serving others have also been rich sources.

In 2004 we compiled some of our best interviews into a book, Q&A: Conversations With 50 Inspiring People, published by, and available from, Gospel Publishing House.

Since 2010, we have recorded many of our interviews on video. You can visit to view them on demand. Many of these are available for download and can be played in church services and meetings.

For this special edition focused on Connections, we have selected 25 of our favorites, plus one brand new interview — with Nik Wallenda, a dedicated Christian who not long ago made history by walking across Niagara Falls.

We hope you enjoy this issue. It’s all about people.
