    By Jean S. Horner
The other day while walking down a corridor in a public building, I saw what appeared to be someone walking toward me. On coming closer, I found it was my own reflection in a huge mirror. For a moment it frightened me. Somehow a full-length reflection of one’s self is a startling thing. ...

Reaching the Children

By L. John Bueno
Jan. 2, 2011

Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these” (Luke 18:16, NIV).

Just as our Savior called children to himself, part of our mission is to minister Christ’s love to children around the world and give them the gospel.

In my 13 years as executive director of Assemblies of God World Missions, I have been privileged to visit more than 150 countries. I have marveled at the dedication of missionaries and national pastors and believers who want to reach out and touch desperately poor and suffering children with the compassion of Christ.

No ministries to children are more efficient and effective than those of the missionaries and national pastors who establish these outreaches. The difference between these ministries and institutional parachurch children’s ministries is simple: Our missionaries and national pastors are there. They live where the children live, and they develop close relationships with them. Not only do they provide food and education for these needy children, but they also share the gospel of Jesus with them and connect them with a church where they can grow in the Lord.

AG World Missions has named 2011 the Year of the Child. We are challenging national churches throughout the world to increasingly recognize the priority of ministry to children and to evaluate how they can better reach and disciple them.

In the following pages, you will see some of our missionaries and national believers who are among so many effectively touching children’s lives around the world. They are demonstrating compassion and sharing the love of Christ with these precious little ones, “for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.”

L. JOHN BUENO is executive director for AG World Missions.
